Hello!

"Where old ghosts meet"는 아이리쉬 시 "라글란 길에서 (On Raglan Road)" 의 한 구절입니다. 시는 1944년 어느 가을 날 더블린을 거닐다 만난, 한눈에 사랑에 빠져버린 한 여자에 대한 이야기인데요. 그 사랑은 슬프게도 이루어지지 않을 운명이었답니다. 그는 그녀를 처음 본 순간 그것을 알았다고 해요. 그녀의 아름다운 검은 머리카락이 자신을 옭아맬거란 것을요. 이 시는 이제는 늙어버린 그가 더블린을 거닐던 그 가을날, 젊은 그와 그녀의 영혼이 처음 만나는 순간을 묘사하고 있어요. 

나와 류 역시, 시인이 사랑을 얻고 잃어버린 더블린의 그 거리에서 어느 가을 날 처음 만났어요. 그 후로 우리 둘은 부산의 작은 아파트, 아일랜드 시골 캐슬 오두막에서 살았고, 지금은 프랑스 중부의 작고 아름다운 마을에 살고 있지만 누가 알겠어요? 다음 6개월은 우리가 또 어느곳에 보금자리를 마련할지. 다시 말하면 우리는 달콤 씁쓸한 시와는 달리 서로의 반려자가 되어 2014년에 결혼했답니다!

이 블로그는 옛 영혼이 만났던 거리에서 우리가 처음 만난 그날 이후 우리 두 사람의 삶에 대한 이야기입니다. 우리가 머물렀던 곳들 그리고 우리가 여행했던 곳들, 뿐만 아니라 결혼 후 서로의 문화 차이에 대한 경험을 이야기하려 합니다. 이 블로그를 통해서 아일랜드와 한국 그리고 우리가 찾아갈 다양한 나라의 이야기에 많은 분들이 관심을 가지게 되면 좋겠습니다. 

"Where old ghosts meet" is a line from an Irish poem called "On Raglan Road". The poet writes about how while walking through Dublin on an Autumn day in 1944 he saw a woman with whom he immediately fell in love. The affair was doomed to failure, sadly, and he admits he knew this from the moment his eyes met hers, exclaiming how her beautiful dark hair weaved a snare for him. In the poem the now old poet describes how he walks through Dublin's streets in Autumn and feels the young ghosts of him and his love are just meeting each other for the first time. 

Eire and I met for the first time in Autumn on the same Dublin streets the poet found and lost his love. Since then we have lived in a tiny apartment in Busan, a castle lodge in the remote Irish countryside, a lovely little town in the centre of France and who knows where we'll be in six months. This is another way of saying that unlike the bittersweet poem, we stayed in each other's company and married in 2014! 

This blog will be the account of our lives from the day we met, on a street where old ghosts meet. We'll talk about all the places we've lived and many of the places we've travelled and we'll discuss our cultures and how we experience our cultural differences while being married. We hope that through our experiences you'll grow a strong interest in Ireland, Korea and everywhere else we visit!
