한국 드라마 아일랜드 / Korean drama called 'Ireland'

에이레랑 제가 몇번 보았던 TV 프로그램에 대해 이야기할까 해요. ‘아일랜드’라는 2004년 한국 드라마인데요. 이 드라마는 아이리쉬 가정에 입양되어 아일랜드로 가게 된 한 여자에 대한 이야기인데요. 엄청나게 충격적이고 슬프게 그리고 완전 드라마틱하게 여주인공의 가족은 전부 살해당하게 됩니다. 그리고 그녀는 그녀의 친오빠를 찾아 한국으로 돌어가게 되고 그 다음은 그녀의 연애에 대한 이야기로 전개되지요.

드라마에서 아이리쉬를 연기하는 모든 연기자들은 100% 미국인이에요. 비록 그 연기자들이 아이리쉬 악센트로 대사를 하려고 노력해도 본인들의 미국 악센트를 숨기기에는 너무 힘들어보이네요. 그리고 드라마의 아이리쉬 사람들은 아일랜드에서 50년전에나 입었을법한 옷을 입고 있고 배경은 딱 봐도 한국 풍경들이네요. (아마 제주도일까요?) 이건 너무, 너무, 너무, 안좋은것 같아요. 미국 영화에 현대 시대의 한국에 대한 장면인데, 텍사스에서 촬영하고 중국인 배우들이 나와서 한국의 70년대 옷을 입고 중국어 악센트로 한국어 대사를 한다고 상상해 보세요.

알아요. 연기자들의 연기는 훌륭했고 이야기도 달달하지요. 나쁜 드라마는 전혀 아니에요. 하지만 아이리쉬로써 내 나라가 사실과 다르게 묘사되는 것을 보는 것이 좀 재미있네요. 에이레와 제가 항상 흉내내는 대사를 하는 장면을 링크걸께요. 한번 보세요!  (에이레 : 이 장면을 본 후 류는 자기가 조금 불리한 상황이 닥치면 농담으로 '나 아일랜드 사람 아니에요'라고 한답니다. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ)

I wanted to talk about a television show Eire and I watch sometimes, 'Ireland', a 2004 Korean drama. It's about a woman adopted by an Irish family and taken to Ireland. Shockingly, sadly, overly dramatically, her entire family is murdered. She then returns to Korea to search for her biological family and with the story then revolving around her love interests.

Anyway, all the actors they've hired to play Irish characters are obviously American. Although they try to speak with Irish accents, their strong American ones are loud and obvious! Also, the Irish characters are dressed like Irish people dressed fifty years ago, and the landscape looks suspiciously like the Korean countryside (Jeju I'm guessing). It's so, so, so bad! So just imagine an American movie about modern day Korea, filmed in Texas, hiring only Chinese actors with Chinese accents, to play the Koreans and with all the characters dressed like it's the 1970's! 

 

Ok, fine, the acting is quite good and the story is sweet. It's not a bad show at all but just very funny for me as an Irishman to watch my country depicted in interesting ways. Here's the pivotal scene that myself and Eire quote all the time now, enjoy!!
